Upstream (Takashi Iwai) now has committed a solution he likes better, and so it will be used in Natty and forward. He asks for testing of the patch, which you can do by uninstalling any dkms packages, then install https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules and reboot.
