Luke, My apologies. It actually does fix the problem. But after updating the drivers I need to change the connector in System -> Preferences -> Sound -> input -> Connector. The new drivers show 2 connectors there: Microphone 1 and Microphone 2. While the old drivers shown only one microphone. Choosing Microphone 2 did the trick.
