Thanks for the response. I'm pretty sure I was on tty1 on 9/2 when X
crashed, but it was either tty1 or tty2--that I'm certain of. It's
always either tty1 or tty2 (I believe it's VT2 most often) upon first
login after a boot, and always tty8 after logging out and logging in
again.
I'll review bug #625239 next and post a summary of my results there.
BTW, I'm on Lucid too, so I haven't tested with Maverick at all.
