in a terminal window and post the output here? If you have only one printer on USB (the LJ4 with adapter cable) can you try as a workaround to open system-config-printer and choose the option to enter an URI. Enter the URI parallel:/dev/usb/lp0 the manually choose manufacturer and model of your printer and complete setting up the print queue.
