After performing four slightly different installations and arriving at
the same failure. I reviewed my experience and studied up on grub for a
couple of hours. Finally, from a root shell in the running system with
which the installation process had left me I issued the command #grub-
install /target /dev/sda. After a second or two, the job returned a
successful installation message. AS the actual installation job never
finished, nothing was imported from th pre-existing Windows partition
save the single user who performed the installation. However, everything
seems to work and it has been in service since installation. There is
only one thing of note and it's probably unrelated to the failed
installation job but on accessing the printers, the "print test page"
button is not active. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Regards

John
