I already filed this bug concerning the monitor, but didn't specifically
place it under xorg:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/95548

The problem is that if the user has to alter the xorg.conf file in order to
get proper monitor settings, the desktop effects manager and the restricted
driver manager refuse to work because the user changed xorg themselves. If
you switch back to an auto configed xorg file, then you're stuff with an
incorrect monitor config. What we need is for the install process to present
to the user the monitor settings it suggests and give the user the option to
reconfigure if need be. The whole process is a mess as it stands. I hear
that xorg 7.3 will put an end to this madness so we'll just have to wait and
see. If I had a say in things, the driver manager and desktop effects
enabler would be removed until xorg can properly configure itself.
