Wonderful! After this bug was reported almost 2 years ago the first action since then is the announcement that it will be closed if no further activity occurs. Is it surprising that I had been expecting some response before I provide further info?
In 10.04 the gpaint window still extends to well below the lower screen boundary on a 1024x600 screen, and therefore is still unusable. This probably won't show up as an apport detectable bug, and can well be tested on any computer, in particular all netbooks to which the Ubuntu Netbook edition is geared.
