Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

When using the Feisty Beta LiveCD installer, grub errors cause the
installer to quit completely rather than allowing the user to try
changing the grub installation options. At this point, there is no
option but to run through the entire installation over again.

With the newer kernel versions, IDE devices are apparently now listed as
SCSI (/dev/sd*) rather than IDE (/dev/hd*). This is the problem which
tripped me up in this case - I wanted to install the boot loader to
/dev/hda1, which I forgot is now spelled /dev/sda1. It would be nice to
be able to fix a mistake like this withouth having to re-do the entire
installation.
