Here are the steps , I tried to remember them as accurately as possible :- I 
searched google and youtube on how to add the global menu- i went to the main 
page of global menu > Installation > PPA Repositories- from youtube, one 
suggested that I use the Karmic repo for Lucid, so that's what I did, I did 
exactly what I watched from the video- I added, reloaded and downloaded the 
global menu- Then, when I added it to the panel, it didn't look exactly like 
the one I saw on youtube so I restarted my laptop.- After restarting, it was 
still the same.
