It is a mini PCI card, which is why it's so annoying that I have to do this every time ubuntu crashes. It requires unscrewing the bottom panel of the laptop and removing the card. Then I have to reboot without the card, switch off the laptop, put the card back in and everything works for a while until the next crash.
