Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: initscripts
I noticed that many new Ubuntu users, at some point, power down the computer or
otherwise creatively kill synaptic/apt-get during updates. The problem is that
the next time the user tries to do any update, it will fail with
!--
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct
the problem.
--!
which is a rather unfriendly error.
The problem is that many users (mostly those migrating from windows or those
wanting a 'Just works' operating system) don't even know how to open the
terminal, let alone find out they should add a 'sudo' before 'dpkg'. This is
basically a very difficult task to be executed by them.
Ubuntu should automatically run the manual command above (or something
on these lines) whenever it boots up, freeing the user of this manual
hassle which is rather common. Booting time is a rather nice time to do
this, since there will be certainly no updates occurring.
