I can reproduce a crash with a simple input file on a Dapper machine:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp $ wget rercola.acm.jhu.edu/test1.dot
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp $ dot test1.dot
Segmentation fault
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp $ dpkg -l graphviz
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name           Version        Description
+++-==============-==============-============================================
ii graphviz 2.2.1-1ubuntu2 rich set of graph drawing tools

This is on Ubuntu Dapper i386. A fix would be tremendously useful for
dapper-updates because it's a very important package failing on the Long
Term Support release for very simple input.

You can use http://rercola.acm.jhu.edu/test1.dot as a test file
(provided by an acm.jhu.edu user).
