Hi Darran, sorry for the delay. After upgrading from Hardy Heron to Karmic Koala I was able to restart the system All programs were updated and worked well, but the network connection was completely lost (I'm writing this from a different system).
I decided yesterday not to look for the bugs, but to install a complete new system (Lucid Lynx) from a DVD in a German newspape (ubuntu). Start from DVD was successful, the are two backups of all data., so I'm looking forward to have a stable system within the next two days. Thanks for the support.
