  My soundcard always has issues HDA INTEL sb with a Realtek ALC883 chipset, it 
is recognized as such , but has no sound.. 
  Its been like this since I upgraded from 8.10 t 9.04 via 9.10 and 10.04 upto 
10.10. So the new alsa driver 1.0.23 didnt help for this.
