Upon following the instructions, I saw that the permissions for item
(Check whether the device files for the printer get created and the
ownerships ("root lp") and permissions (non-HP: "crw-rw-r--", HP: "crw-
rw-r--+") correctly set) were the non-HP values, though it is an HP
printer.

I also was prompted to install foo2zjs and hplib for following some of
the other instructions. I did that, and removed my printer, but after
trying to install it, I see that the system does not detect it.
Currently, I have somewhat different problem in that when I run lsusb it
takes a very log time if the printer is plugged in, and the printer is
not among the output.

e.g.:
time lsusb

Also, here is the output of 'tail -f /var/log/messages -n0' while running only
the lsusb:
tail -f /var/log/messages -n0

This output comes only when the printer is plugged in.

Also, after some digging around, I noticed this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/491133

Although I'm not sure if it is the same problem as mine.

It seems that for me, trying the debugging took me a step backwards,
sorry.
