I installed the mainline amd64 kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.15.5-lucid/. I couldn't do any reliable testing on this kernel as the virtual machines in kvm had problems running on this kernel (I couldn't get any network access to them via ping/ssh). The kvm problems did not occur on the standard Ubuntu kernel release.
