I just wanted to add that doing what Guillaume Desmottes said works,
although its a bit tedious to click every single contact and right
click-edit-groups (drag and drop doesn't work, is this a separate
issue?/should I add it as wishlist?).

Anyways, a gmail group should be automatically created once you add a gmail
account (as I understand that's the expected behaviour) but mine doesn't..I
just see all my gmail contacts on the top of the contact list, and then my MSN
groups..
I don't know how to reproduce this, since it's just like that even if I
reinstall empathy..
Ubuntu 10.04
Empathy 2.30.2
