Further info... I am running Ubuntu 10.04 with the driver downloaded from Realtek with no problem.
Distributions with the Realtek 8192 WiFi driver actually in the kernel do not seem to work. As an example Mandriva 2010.1 now includes the Realtek 8192 driver in the kernel, when I start the live distro it does not find the wifi, but if I go to the network config and enter the setup I can start the WiFi. I then install mandriva, it installs, finds updates etc, but next time I boot the WiFi does not work. I am using my WiFi in mode B with no encryption it is totally open apart from barring some users by mac code. It does seem a problem in the kernel WiFi code? -- Ken Williams Kinmel Bay, Rhyl.
