I also find it very annoying, that mountall doesn't give helpfull diagnoastic messages at all if a boot device is not available or a fstab line is faulty. It not even droppes someone to a shell, not to mention, that it doesn't give the hint to press CTRL+ALT+SysRq+K to get a maintenance shell. That's insane. It's very annoying too, that it doesn't show a progressbar on fsck, especially on big harddrives.
