If you still have the file /tmp/emacs22.kBVO49 on your system, could you please attach that here as well? Alternatively, you can probably create a new file with a similar name by running the following command in a terminal window: sudo apt-get install emacs22-gtk The problem is probably in an emacs add-on package; the contents of the /tmp/emacsXXXX file will hopefully reveal which one. The file name should be visible on your screen after the above command finishes, and also near the end of /var/log/apt/term.log (which you will need sudo / root access to read or copy). Still leaving Status at Incomplete; again, it can be changed back to New once the requested information is supplied.
