Is it possible to have the output of glxinfo in order to know what's your 
graphic card, your drivers and some other things?
 $ sudo apt-get install mesa-utils
 $ glxinfo

I think that there is maybe something wrong with your drivers or
something else with Xorg or Mesa :-/

@Elias: it's better to compile the latest version with our script
because it adds some flags in order to have a backtrace with more
informations (functions + lines numbers) :)

But meanwhile you can use the Cairo backend (without OpenGL) ;)
