Hrm, interesting. That's a really straight-forward setup. Try this, from a terminal, before running byobu. mv -f $HOME/.byobu $HOME/.byobu.orig mv -f $HOME/.screenrc $HOME/.screenrc.orig
That should make a backup copy of your configuration. Now run byobu This should clean out any previous configuration and start you off fresh. Let me know if that solves the issue for you.
