Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

Release: Kubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) 20100928.1
Architecture: amd64

The issue is rather low in importance. It mostly is a bit confusing when
not paying close attention. So this report is more of a wish-list entry
or acts as documentation.

In Maverick the installer offers an option to automatically install third-party
drivers (including the libraries for mp3 playback). When using this option to
install and after the system has been installed successfully, starting Amarok
pops up a dialog to install mp3 and video encoding libraries. It may be easy to
miss that this really is only needed for encoding (as I did) and by that to
wonder whether the third-party driver install succeeded.
And, depending on how you look at it, the normal use of Amarok (at least for
me) is to play media files and not to encode them. Maybe it would be possible
to make that dialog only check for playback codecs and offer a second download
box whenever someone starts an action that requires an encoding codec.

** Affects: amarok (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
