This appears to have been "fixed" by bug #614088. Now instead of unity
not starting and being left with a blank wallpaper you are given an
error that unity does not support your video adapter and you are booted
to the login screen which will dump you into the standard desktop mode.
This is better than displaying nothing but I was under the impression if
3d hardware was not available an enlightenment based "unity" was
supposed to show up. Whatever happened to that?
Anyways I'll mark this as a duplicate of #614088 since that fix
corrected the literal issue presented here.
