Public bug reported:
The problem I have is intermittent. There are a few symptoms, related to
either USB or shutting down, and they all happen at the same time:
* The "Shut Down ..." entry from the "System" menu goes away. The "Lock Screen"
and "Log Out ..." entries remain.
* I cannot reboot or shut down the machine from the lower right menu in gdm.
The entries "Restart" and "Shut down" are present, but they don't do anything.
* The USB hard drive plugged into my machine won't automount.
* Plugging a USB stick into the machine gets me a "Not authorized" error. This
part appears superficially similar to bug #478274.
It's as if my user account acted as if it were no longer part of the
"admin" group.
