Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
Binary package hint: update-manager

I installed Ubuntu 10.10. I tried to do the update manager and it installed 177
updates. It stopped when it said "/etc/default/grub: 1: c#: not found". I tried
to update again and it said that there were no updates. I tried the next day to
see if there were ny more and I get that there is a partial upgrade available
most likely due to a previous update not finishing. When I click on the partial
upgrade button it crashes the program. Also this may or may not be related but
when I do "sudo update-grub" I get the same error message.
