The problem here is: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/installer/casper.log'" as casper.log is only readable by root, see my local file here: 104 12K -rw------- 1 root root 9.0K 2009-07-13 16:16 /var/log/installer/casper.log apport should prompt for admin rights though instead of failing.
