** Description changed: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - Lucid Lynx cx88_alsa, usb-audio I use an USB-audio-interface and a cx88-TV-card. Out of the box sound doesn't work with many applications like vlc or zapping because there is no alsa-default-device specified. No sound can be heared. (Other applications, totem for instance, work.) Some applications throw errors not finding a mixer device. For example alsamixer does so if started without a command-line-parameter specifying the device. The reason can be found in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf The following section is to blame: # Prevent abnormal drivers from grabbing index 0 options bt87x index=-2 options cx88_alsa index=-2 options saa7134-alsa index=-2 options snd-atiixp-modem index=-2 options snd-intel8x0m index=-2 options snd-via82xx-modem index=-2 options snd-usb-audio index=-2 options snd-usb-us122l index=-2 options snd-usb-usx2y index=-2 options snd-usb-caiaq index=-2 If there are only those "abnormal drivers" in use alsa starts counting the devices by 1 instead of zero. Therefore there is no ALSA-default-device causing the mentioned problems. Workaround: Uncomment the appropriate line. For me it's the usb-audio- line + + + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21. + AplayDevices: + **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** + card 0: Audio [USB Audio], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio] + Subdevices: 1/1 + Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + Architecture: i386 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USER PID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: video 1474 F.... pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC1: video 1474 F.... pulseaudio + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'Audio'/'USB Audio at usb-0000:00:10.0-1, full speed' + Mixer name : 'USB Mixer' + Components : 'USB145f:0090' + Controls : 12 + Simple ctrls : 7 + Card1.Amixer.info: + Card hw:1 'CX8811'/'Conexant CX8811 at 0xec000000' + Mixer name : 'CX88' + Components : '' + Controls : 3 + Simple ctrls : 2 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 + NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia + Package: alsa-base 1.0.22.1+dfsg-0ubuntu3 + PackageArchitecture: all + ProcEnviron: + LANGUAGE=de_DE:de:en_GB:en + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=de_DE.utf8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-25.44-generic 2.6.32.21+drm33.7 + Tags: lucid + Uname: Linux 2.6.32-25-generic i686 + UserGroups: adm admin audio cdrom dialout dip fax floppy mysql mythtv plugdev sambashare scanner tape + dmi.bios.date: 10/29/2004 + dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies, LTD + dmi.bios.version: 6.00 PG + dmi.board.name: MS-6734 + dmi.board.vendor: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD + dmi.chassis.type: 3 + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnPhoenixTechnologies,LTD:bvr6.00PG:bd10/29/2004:svnMICRO-STARINTERNATIONALCO.,LTD:pnKM400-8235:pvr:rvnMICRO-STARINTERNATIONALCO.,LTD:rnMS-6734:rvr:cvn:ct3:cvr: + dmi.product.name: KM400-8235 + dmi.sys.vendor: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD ** Attachment added: "AlsaDevices.txt" https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/650665/+attachment/1670157/+files/AlsaDevices.txt -- no default ALSA-device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/650665 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
