In gdm i have a "ubuntu-desktop-edition (sicherheitsmodus)" and only this runs clean without services. Desktop effects are switched to "none".

The desktop appears solid colored without anything else, the pointer stills locked in the middle of the screen. The fan blows lot of heat, ctrl-alt-del, console keys and powerdown switch are ignored. The failsafe sessions runs well, i removed all start apps but the full desktop session crash every time at login. Parallel installed netbook-remix run into blinking chess graphic trash with hot blowing fan but there i can reach the consoles to reset gdm.
