Upon looking at the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UsingGmailWithEvolution I noticed that there are no specific fields to input the port numbers required for the incoming and outgoing mail servers. I think you have to input the port along with the addresses for the servers, i.e. imap.gmail.com:933 and smtp.gmail.com:465. I'm sending this email with Evolution following the suggestion I am providing to you, so if you get this email, that is what is missing in your configuration of Evolution.
