I too confirm that the http://people.canonical.com/~diwic/temp/alsa-
intel-hda-optiplex-dkms_1.0.23_all.deb fixes the problem. My laptop is
Asus K52DR and the devices as reported by 'aplay -l' are:

v...@vita-laptop:~$ aplay -l

card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC259 Analog [ALC259 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 3: ATI HDMI [ATI HDMI]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Also alsamixer now correctly shows the 'headphone' control. Thanks for
fixing this bug!
