This issue is being discussed together with other similar issues at bug
553162, and I'm going to mark this bug as a duplicate.
The patches I have attached to bug 553162 address the problem you
describe, and basically I agree with you even if it is in GDM i suggest
that LC_MESSAGES is set.
A quick fix for your specific problem: Try setting en_DK for numbers
etc. (That's the setting I had before I started to dig deeper into this
issue.)
