Ubuntu 8.10 is no longer supported.
It would help if you could test if this still occurs on Ubuntu 8.10 to Ubuntu
10.04.1 LTS dist-upgrade.
Please provide the output of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrintingBugInfoScript in
8.10, do the dist-upgrade then run the following command in 10.04.1 LTS on a
terminal: apport-collect 291514.
Please also add the log files from '/var/log/dist-upgrade/' to this bug report
as separate attachments.
