Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

This bug occurred in Lucid Lynx 10.04 LTS on an Acer 21" wide screen monitor. I
have an ATI Radeon 200M chipset.
I am not sure if this bug is related to my video chipset, power management
settings, or something else.

The screensaver preferences were set on the Helios screensaver and set
to activate after 5 minutes of activity. Upon awakening the monitor by
moving the mouse or touching the keyboard, any open windows would be
shifted from their previous position. For example Firefox always shifts
down, other windows shift in the northwest direction. The title bar,
min/max & close buttons of each window disappears. The screen does not
completely freeze but I am unable to click on the top of the window and
move it to its correct location. I am able to activate the top File-
Edit-View toolbar and close the windows but only on the window that is
on top. I am unable to switch to an alternate window. If you would like
me to test this further, please let me know. This bug did not exist with
the Karmic release.

Restarting the computer returns functionality. I have disabled both the
screensaver and the power management settings and have not had any
further problems.

I expected the screen to be fully functional once it is awakened from
standby.
