Hi Fabio, I didn't know where to get the md5 hash for the release candidate so I downloaded it a second time and compared the files before reporting the bug. Now the Maverick release is out and it has the same problem. The md5 hash, 1b9df87e588451d2ca4643a036020410 checks out. The motherboard has on-board video. If I take the video card out and use the motherboard video, it works. It looks to me like it's a bug in the video detection. The video switches to 1920x1200 but the old buffer data is not cleared. The video driver may be writing data to the inactive hardware.
Sorry, I'd forgotten these boards have video on them, I would have tried removing the cards before reporting the bug. The bug would more properly be named Maverick doesn't install with video card + on-board video. The system doesn't die completely. Alt/sys-req/b and alt/sys-req/o will reboot or shutdown, but nothing else has any effect.
