Some more information: evdev is apparently misdetecting the keyboard as
a mouse:
# xinput list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 id=9 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ A4Tech USB Optical Mouse id=10 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 id=8 [slave keyboard (3)]
I've attached Xorg.0.log (apologies for all the radeon cruft), which
confirms this.
Temporary workaround for anyone else affected: open a terminal and type:
xinput list
Note the "id" of the keyboard misdetected as a mouse (in my case, 9),
then type:
xinput set-prop 9 126 0
(where you replace the "9" with your ID). Media keys don't work, but
they don't hang the GUI either.
