I have attached a zip file containing three output files from the alsa-
info script.

1. output from 10.04 with the sound working
2. output from 10.10 with no sound
3. output from 10.10 with the lines added to the alsa-base.conf file that were
suggested here, these lines didn't solve the problem for me, but I thought I
would run the script with them just in case

For the person who asked earlier, your alsa-base file should be located
at /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. Run the following in a terminal to
edit it:

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

** Attachment added: "Alsa-Info from Lucid, Maverick, and Maverick with
alsa-base edit"
