Public bug reported: Since upgrading from Lucid to Maverick the graphical boot screen is gone. I now only get the textual boot screen (text theme of plymouth). I'm not talking about the verbose textual (ASCII) boot process. The boot command line contains "quiet splash".
The graphics card is a GeForce 6800 Go. I am and have been using the binary/proprietary NVIDIA driver in both Ubuntu versions. If this is related to Maverick now using KMS (kernel mode settings) then please explain how I get a beautiful boot screen when using the proprietary NVIDIA driver. In Lucid the boot screen looked like this: http://media.cdn.ubuntu-de.org/wiki/attachments/11/17/ubuntu-logo.png Now it looks like this (except the text of course, which is "Ubuntu 10.10"): http://scr3.golem.de/screenshots/1003/ub_1004b1/thumb480/01_ubuntu_1004_beta.png Many thanks! ** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No graphical boot screen since 10.10 (nvidia, plymouth) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/659081 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
