better. Could you please add the log files from '/var/log/dist-upgrade/'

Regarding that linux kernel, linux-image-2.6.31-20, it is in the karmic
repositories.  Try entering this command in a terminal (Applications >
Accessories > Terminal):

sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-2.6.31-20

To use your flash drive that has Ubuntu 10.10, you need to connect it to
your computer and navigate to the syslinux.cfg file in the syslinux
folder.  Then edit the file by removing the "ui" keyword.  You should be
able to boot properly from flash drive.
