Public bug reported:

Sound in various applications plays just fine, but will suddenly cut
out, uncorrelated with any user action. Playing a collection of MP3s and
oggs using VLC for several hours it cut out every hour or so. When it
occurs in VLC, the track that is playing (which I know has audio right
through to the end) is silent until the end, and the audio restarts at
the beginning of the next track.
