Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

On Ubuntu 10.10, typing on the main window (searching for contacts)
resizes the main window. After that, you can resize it vertically but
the horizontal size stays fixed.

What I expected to happen: when I type on the main window, no resizing
should occur.

What happened: the main window resized, and I am unable to resize the
width of the window.
