Binary package hint: network-manager
I boot the live environment from an USB stick or the CD, using the
ubuntu-10.10-desktop-i386.iso
- I click the NM icon to select a detected WLAN.
- I enter the requested key (WPA2-PSK)
- it connects and networking works (pinging a remote host)
- I press ctrl-alt-F1 to switch to VT1
- on VT1 ping reports unknown host, ifconfig confirms there is no IP address
on wlan0
- I switch back to VT7 (alt-F7)
- the ping I left there is showing ping: sendmsg: Network is unreachable
- after a second or two, the net is reconnected and work again
This is reproducible on all 3 PCs I tried (an old Athlon XP2200+
desktop, HP nw8440 laptop and Toshiba L500-13T laptop)
I attach the syslog excerpt.
I switched to VT1 at about 8:30:55 and switch back to VT7 at 8:31:20.
