Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: binutils
In Ubuntu 10.10:
The /usr/bin/ld linker, as found in package binutils version
2.20.51.20100908-0ubuntu2 is linked against library
libbfd-2.20.1-system.20100303.so instead of the provided
libbfd-2.20.51-system.20100908.so (in the same package) and thus cannot
be executed at all.
Breaking ld also breaks installing or upgrading other packages, e.g.
nvidia-current, not to mention building packages from source.
A quick fix is to install the alternative linker from the binutils-gold
package, until this bug is properly fixed.
Building from the binutils source package, either by manually
reinstalling binutils version 2.20.1 or by installing binutils-gold,
doesn't solve the issue.
