The same (loss of GLX functionality) happened to me after an upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10. It's on a desktop with on Intel 82Q35 Express Integrated Graphics controller (rev02). The motherboard is an Intel 82801. For what's worth: my colleague runs the 64bit version of Ubuntu ad had no problems after the upgrade.
