yes I agree, java apps started in the usual way are working well.
At the moment I can trigger it executing java app from eclipse (that uses 
native gtk ui)

the problem is that a bug in libgtk (I suppose the problem is here if
you say that vlc too triggers the issue) let the xserver crash!
