Well, I've gone back to Karmic without finding a working kernel.
I am not sure even anymore to have even burnt a dvd rw.. ;)
Given that there's a chance for the hardware to got broken, or some other
software misbehaving, I would have to test it using a real "Karmic" system.
I could also try going back to Hardy or something alike, but that it unlikely
to boot given Maverick's upstart in userspace.
I will just leave this open, and provide any additional information I might
find in the future - it is not very important for me anymore though; I have
burnt the media on another system.
