Appears to be host dependent. I have 2 machines 1: Acer 4315 laptop 2:emachines (acer) em350 netbook (recently acquired). Both intel based, both running current 10.04 kernel 2.6.32-25-generic I have a bag of 10 identical bluetooth dongles. On #1, I almost always get the timeout error and can never connect to my bluetooth enabled phone. On #2, 8 of the 10 dongles work fine, I can transfer files back and forth and the connection stays up.
