It is true that still most programs store there data outside of the XDG hierarchy but this is changing, bugs have been filed against almost all GNOME packages and many have been fixed already (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=523057), in addition to the applications you mentioned, other "standard" applications like Empathy, gnome-do, pitivi, tracker, vlc, etc. already use .local/share.
