Same thing happened here with Ubuntu Maverick final Desktop Live CD; when trying to boot, Plymouth runs perfectly (detects resolutions correctly), but when it tries to start the regular desktop, it freezes. Screen shows garbage (mostly what's left on video memory, sometimes I even recognize something from my last Lucid session), but VT switching works.
Switched to VT1 and tried to collect as much log data as possible. Problem seems, obviously, to be Nouveau. Attached you'll find to Xorg logs I found and a `dmesg | grep -i nouv` output showing some problems. My video card is a GDDR5 nVidia GT 240 (512mb). Will try to install with alternate CD and hope that nVidia's blob works fine (as it does right now with Lucid) -- but I really wanted to test out Nouveau (anyway, I can't live without VDPAU so I would have ended up using the proprietary blob anyway). Hope this helps, nachokb ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log.old" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/659406/+attachment/1698999/+files/Xorg.0.log.old -- Kubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) Live-CD i386 Dektop does not boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/659406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
