Well, I spoke prematurely. The problem returned after a couple reboots. I don't see how this could be a cable problem when the same device works perfectly fine on my Desktop and both my work Laptop and my personal Laptop. Also, it's not just the mouse, it seems like my printer isn't recognized either. I still think this is a software problem as the older kernels from 9.10 all worked perfectly. I am going to try doing a fresh install of 10.10 at pretty soon to see whether that resolves the problem.
